Founded in 1897 during the height of the late Victorian whisky boom, Tamdhu was designed with innovation and efficiency in mind and became one of the first distilleries to adopt electric power. Located on the River Spey, it has historically focused on producing for blends, particularly those of its former owners, the Edrington Group, including Cutty Sark and the Famous Grouse. After a brief closure in the 2000s, Tamdhu was revived by Ian Macleod Distillers, who repositioned it as a single malt brand centered on sherry cask maturation, reflecting a more traditional Speyside style.
