Royal Lochnagar Distillery, located near Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside, was founded in 1845 by John Begg and granted its royal title after a visit from Queen Victoria in 1848. Built on the site of earlier distilleries, it remains a compact operation with traditional equipment, including an open mash tun, wooden washbacks, and worm tub condensers.
