Built in 1898 near Elgin in Speyside, Glen Elgin was one of the last distilleries constructed during the whisky boom of the 1890s, shortly before the market collapsed. Glen Elgin struggled in its early years, going silent shortly after opening, but eventually found stability under the ownership of Distillers Company Ltd (DCL). Today, Glen Elgin is known primarily as a blending malt, contributing to major blends, notably White Horse, with relatively few official single malt releases.
