Knockando Distillery, founded in 1898 in the Speyside village of the same name, was one of the earliest in Scotland to be built with electric lighting and was deliberately sited near the Cardnach Spring, providing a reliable source of soft water. A railway siding built in 1905 briefly connected the site to the wider region. Like many distilleries of its era, Knockando faced operational halts during the early 20th century, including wartime closures and economic downturns, but managed to recover and resume production under changing ownership. It has since operated steadily for decades, primarily contributing to blends but also offering a consistent single malt series released by vintage year rather than age statement.
