Buffalo Trace, based in Frankfort, Kentucky, is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States. It remained active even during Prohibition by producing medicinal whiskey and today produces a wide range of brands, including Eagle Rare and Pappy Van Winkle. The distillery is also known for its long-running experimental warehouse program, which has tracked the effects of variables like barrel char levels and location of maturation within warehouses.
